The First Date

They met while working at the same Walmart. Christina a cashier, and Spencer a department supervisor. Some of Christina’s friends, who worked for Spencer at the time, would take their lunch together most days. During one of those lunches, Christina mentioned to her friends that she really wanted to see the movie Spider Man 3. To her dismay, she found out her friends had already seen it. Spencer, who was sitting the next table over, spoke up and said he had seen the movie too but would be more than happy to see it again with her.

On May 8th, 2007 at about 5:30pm, Spencer picked Christina up from her class at the local college. With some time to spare before the movie, they went to Ruby Tuesdays for a burger and some small talk. Once the movie was over they joked around about how bad it was and she couldn’t believe Spencer actually watched it twice. The one particular scene of the movie they laughed the most about was a part where one of the characters “flirted” with another character by dancing to Chubby Checkers’ “The Twist”. So in a similar fashion, Spencer played the song in the car and they “danced” on the drive back to Christina’s car.

As the evening came to a close in the deserted school parking lot, they said their goodbyes with an awkward handshake and an extra awkward hug.

The Engagement

To celebrate their 4th year anniversary, Spencer took Christina to Orlando to go see “The Airborne Toxic Event” in concert (a relatively unknown band, so don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of them). Spencer had planned to propose that evening after the concert, but the concert ran long and was followed by a meet-and-greet with the band. By the time it was over, Christina was already falling asleep in the car. Spencer was feeling quite nervous about the whole thing anyway, so letting Christina sleep only bought him some time to work up the nerve again.

The next day Spencer was ready to do it. In preparation for both the proposal and the anniversary, Spencer had a custom book printed. It was the story of their relationship told with pictures starting with the time they first met, through fun times they had together, and up to the current time together. However instead of ending there, the book continued with a really corny poem Spencer had wrote. Christina laughed at how cheesy it was, but still got teary eyed and said it was sweet. She finally made it through to the last paragraph and read the words “I’ve never felt a love like ours, The true highlight of my life, So I ask you now with all my soul…” A bit confused, she quickly turned the page to read the rest. At that moment Spencer pulled the ring out of his pocket and read the last part of the poem “Will you be my Wife?”
